The law authorized by the Texas Local Government Code 233.092 requires every Residence and Business in the unincorporated area of Fort Bend County with an activated Security Alarm System to have an Alarm Permit of which is administered by the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office.
The alarm regulations are largely in response to mounting concerns for the ever increasing number of dispatched calls for police to alarms, determined all too often, after the fact, to be “False”. In fact, some 99% of all alarm calls are determined to be false. Every false alarm diverts the police from responding to actual emergency incidents elsewhere. And while no one expects false alarms to ever be completely eradicated, too often they are the results of unmaintained equipment or easily avoidable environmental factors (i.e. pets tripping the motion sensor, human error, etc.) Alarm permitting encourages more responsible alarm care and usage, but also provides law enforcement responding to alarms with vital information about who should and who should not be at a residence or business, and who they should contact if necessary.
New Alarm Permits are $35.00 with an Annual Renewal Fee of $10.00.
