Captain James R. Burger is the Commander of Training and Human Resources for the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office. In this role he is the director of the Gus George Law Enforcement Academy which provides education and training courses to law enforcement personnel in the Houston-Galveston area region. He is also responsible for the Human Resources Section of the Sheriff’s Office, which processes applications for employment, provides support to agency employees, and ensures the selection process for new hires and promotions remain fair, valid, and non-discriminatory.
Captain Burger is a 32 year law enforcement professional, the past 29 years being with the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office. Captain Burger has held several positions within the Sheriff’s Office in the Patrol Division, Training Academy and Criminal Investigations Division.
Captain Burger is a graduate of the 215th session of the FBI National Academy at Quantico, Virginia. He is a certified Master Peace Officer and Law Enforcement Instructor from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
