Captain Cheryl Hillegeist is the Commander of Identification, Records, Property and Evidence Division for the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office. In this role she is responsible for managing the many components of the Identification Division. These include the Crime Scene Unit, Latent Print Unit, Technology Forensics Unit, A.F.I.S. (Automated Fingerprint Identification System), I.B.I.S.( Integrated Ballistic Identification System) and the Property Room/Evidence Room. Captain Hillegeist is also responsible for the management of the Records Division. Currently, the Records Division maintains both criminal and detention records for the agency and is responsible for expungements, open records request and providing documents and courtroom testimony when requested. Captain Hillegeist is also responsible for the Alarm Detail and Game Room Regulatory Unit.
Captain Hillegeist began her career in 1983 with the Texas Department of Corrections. She joined the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office in March of 1998. While assigned to the Detention Division she promoted to the rank of Sgt. in January of 2009. In January of 2009 she was appointed to the rank of Lieutenant.
Captain Hillegeist has attended Central Texas College, Houston Community College, Lone Star College, and Wharton Jr. College. She earned her Peace Office Certification in 1999. She holds numerous certificates from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) including a Master Peace Officer Certificate and her Certified Instructors Certificate.
