New Freedom Transportation
Service for People with Disabilities
On February 16, 2009, Fort Bend Transit rolled out the first phase of a new transportation service for people with disabilities who live in the rural areas of Fort Bend County. Fort Bend Transit was awarded a “New Freedom” grant by the state to support new public transportation services and public transportation alternatives beyond those required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990.
The New Freedom Transportation Service offers shared ride bus services to the citizens of Fort Bend County. The scheduled ride transportation service provides trips within Fort Bend County.
In order to schedule or cancel a ride you may call 866-751-TRIP between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday and ask for the “Fort Bend County Reservations.” Reservations can be made 30 days or up to 1 business day in advance of the appointment time. Fort Bend County Reservations will issue you a confirmation number. Be sure cancellations are received more than 2 hours before scheduled appointment time. If passenger is not ready or decides not to go, the trip will be considered a “no show” trip. If a passenger receives three “no shows” in one year period, their services can be suspended.
There are no transit services available on county holidays. Rides are typically scheduled for first “destination” drop off by 8:00 AM and last pick-up will be no later than 5:00 PM. Repeat rides may be scheduled in advance. Rides will be accepted on a “time and space” available basis.

The purpose of the registration form is to demonstrate that the individuals accessing the new program are people with disabilities. The registration is a requirement of the New Freedom grant and information will be kept on file for future rides.
On the registration form, the individuals accessing the program are also asked if they would give permission to be contacted by a government sponsored research group to answer a brief survey about the use of the New Freedom Program. Ridership is not dependent on being a part of the survey, individuals are free to opt out of the survey.
For each trip, the individuals or their guardians must call Fort Bend Transit at 1-866-751-TRIP (8747) or 281-633-RIDE (7433), use prompt #3 and ask for Fort Bend Reservations. The individual must tell the operator that the ride is for “New Freedom” along with the date and time that s/he will ride and disembark, or destination, that s/he will use.
