Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels (FBS) is one of Fort Bend County’s oldest non-profit organizations. For the past 35 years, FBS has enhanced senior citizens lives through providing hot nutritious meals, and resources such as congregate meals, transportation, case management, health screenings, information and referral services, and recreation activities. Today, the agency provides meals to over 1,000 seniors a day in Fort Bend County and over 100 seniors in the Stafford and Missouri City area.
However, it is not just about the meals, it is about the volunteers. Volunteers devote one or two hours a week monthly of their time to deliver meals in the area. These dedicated volunteers take a moment to visit with the senior and will sometimes do a light task such as change a light bulb. The volunteers see first hand, that they can make a difference in someone’s life, by brightening their day with a visit or just reminding them that they still matter and someone cares.
Seniors who can drive and are physically able enjoy social events, activities, exercise, workshops, and field trips at the Fort Bend Fifth Street Community Center, 3110 Fifth Street, Stafford (serving Sugar Land, Stafford, Missouri City and Meadows Place), and Mustang Community Center, 4521 FM 521 N., Fresno (serving Fresno, Arcola and East Missouri City). Round-trip transportation from the seniors’ home to the community centers is provided by Fort Bend County Public Transportation.
Volunteers are always needed to deliver meals, provide educational classes or entertainment at the centers. Persons interested in volunteering or want to make a donation are invited to visit http://www.fortbendseniors.org/ or call 281-633-7049.
