About the Department
The Parks and Recreations Department was established in October of 1995 by Fort Bend County Commissioners Court. We have approximately 2,777 acres of park land in which over 2,200 acres are wet lands. The department is responsible in the development and maintenance of the Fort Bend County Fair Grounds, 10 active parks, 3 leased parks, and 4 community centers. Amenities included in the parks are walking trails, playgrounds, basketball courts, baseball fields, soccer fields, football fields, cricket fields, splash pads, fishing, and more. We also offer pavilions, community centers, and Fair Ground building rentals for private events.
In the summer months, the Parks Department also coordinates the Summer Food program, which is sponsored through Fort Bend County, and funded through the Texas Department of Agriculture. This program runs for 8 weeks starting in June till August. Through our partnership with various organizations we serve over 34,000 meals to children in Fort Bend County.
