Horsemanship Program

Horsemanship Program is a fun, physical activity, as well as a wonderful way to practice and improve personal skills. Students learn about safety with horses, the nature of horses and how to ride. They also learn to listen, be patient, and use decision-making skills.

Horses react to the rider’s body language thereby providing a vehicle for the projection of the rider’s feelings. This can be beneficial because it gives the rider immediate feedback as to what they are communicating. In order to change the horse’s behavior the rider must change their own behaviors.

A participant has the opportunity to examine what works and what does not work. Learning to communicate with and control such a large and powerful animal is an enjoyable way to improve self-esteem and self-control. Special Programs offers basic horsemanship as well as equine assisted psychotherapy.
