Accelerant Detection Canine

K-9 “Bella”

K-9 “Bella” is the Accelerant Detection Canine for the Fort Bend County Fire Marshal’s Office; her handler is Assistant Chief Steven McDonald. She is not only the first accelerant detection canine for this agency, but also the first one in the history of Fort Bend County.

Bella was born in the nation of Hungary on March 1, 2014 and is half German Shepherd and half Belgian Malinois. Bella was purchased by Houston K-9 Academy in early 2016, brought to the United States, and trained her for accelerant detection.  Bella and her handler then completed five weeks of handler training before becoming State and Nationally Certified.

Bella is certified by the Texas State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Canine Accelerant Detection Association, and the North American Police Work Dog Association.
