County Judge Bob Hebert has ordered that Fort Bend County offices be CLOSED through Monday, September 4, 2017, because of the dangerous flood conditions. At 9AM this morning, August 24, 2017, County Judge Bob Hebert declared a local state of disaster in Fort Bend County in anticipation of the effects of the rapidly strengthening Tropical Storm Harvey.

On March 9, 2018, 55-year-old Paula Sinclair was sentenced to 35 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division (TDCJ – ID) after entering a plea of guilty on four first-degree felony charges for Injury to a Child-Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

Judge Chad Bridges sentenced Sierra Renee Davis to 6 years in prison on January 4, 2018 for Arson. The 23-year-old Richmond woman pled guilty to setting fire to an apartment complex last November and asked the Court to determine her punishment.
A jury convicted Jorge Alberto Perez of felony Misapplication of Fiduciary Property on January 12, 2018, after which Judge Kenneth S. Cannata sentenced him to a probation Perez agreed to with prosecutors. The 36-year-old Houston man was caught after his employer’s internal audit discovered a shortage of prescription drugs in 2009-2010.
Osa Alohaneke was sentenced to 40 years in prison on January 22, 2018 after a jury convicted him of Murder just days earlier. The 59-year-old Nigerian man was charged with stabbing and killing Evelyne Epiepang in her Southwest Houston home in 2015.
On December 8, 2017, 46-year-old Christopher Shane Artz of College Station was sentenced to life in prison for the offense of Continuous Sexual Assault of a Young Child. Due to the nature of the offense, he is not eligible for parole.
A Fort Bend County jury convicted Pamela Sue Kahlden of Harassment on November 29, 2017. Judge Ronald Cohen then sentenced to her to serve 30 days in jail as a condition of her probation. The 50-year-old Sugar Land resident was charged with the crime after making repeated phone calls to her ex-husband’s girlfriend in 2015.
Christopher Paul Cashman pleaded guilty to the felony charges of Possession of Child Pornography and Forgery of a Government Instrument on November 29, 2017. The 42 year-old Pecan Grove man then accepted 6 years in prison in an agreement with prosecutors.
A jury convicted Heyner Mendez Castro of Driving While Intoxicated on November 15, 2017 before he was sentenced to probation in an agreement with prosecutors. The 27 year-old Alief man was arrested after officers found him passed out in the middle of the road in October 2016.
Sharon Harris, a member of the Fort Bend County Historical Commission's Cemetery Committee, was honored as the organization's 2017 Commissioner of the Year at its Nov. 21 quarterly meeting.
Sherman Dwayne Jones was sentenced to 42 years in prison on November 14, 2017 after pleading guilty to the murder of his estranged wife. The 56-year-old Needville man was charged with the crime after violently stabbing the woman to death in front of their young children in 2011.
A jury convicted Randy Ruiz Alfaro of Assault Family Violence in only 20 minutes on October 25, 2017. The 23 year-old Pasadena man was arrested after Sugar Land police officers responded to a disturbance in the parking lot of the Sam’s Club at 351 N. SH 6 in April of 2017.
