The CDC urges all US residents to avoid nonessential travel to Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone due to this current outbreak of Ebola. More information can be found on the CDC website at: http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices/warning/ebola-liberia.

Enhanced Ebola screening is taking place at the five U.S. airports that are receiving travelers from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Trained Department of Homeland Security’s Customs & Border Protection staff, working closely with the CDC, are conducting a series of health and exposure interviews, in addition to taking traveler temperatures with a non-contact thermometer. Entry screening is part of a layered process that includes exit screening and standard public health practices such as patient isolation and contact tracing in countries with Ebola outbreaks. Successful containment of the recent Ebola outbreak in Nigeria demonstrates the effectiveness of this approach.

If you are planning to travel outside of the US, talk with your doctor, or make an appointment at a travel medicine specialist before leaving.
