FORT BEND COUNTY, TX - Harvey is now a Tropical Storm with maximum sustained wind speeds of 60 mph. Harvey has also begun to slow down, as it is currently moving to the east-northeast at only 2 mph. However, there is a Tornado Watch until 2:00 a.m. on Sunday for Fort Bend County. Saturday night, two tornados touched down in the county. The first occurred at US 90A and Texas Parkway in Missouri City damaging at least three businesses with one injury at the scene that required transport to a local Fort Bend hospital. The second occurred on Robinwood St. in Missouri City and Fort Bend Emergency Medical Services treated a minor injury at the location.
Rainfall continues to be the major concern in the county and there have been mandatory and voluntary evacuations imposed. Residents near the Brazos River and San Bernard River are the most impacted. Staff at the Emergency Operations Center continue to monitor the rainfall and flooding. The latest in street closures can also be found on website. If you are unable to evacuate under the threat of a tornado and must shelter in place follow these guidelines:
- Head to your safe location. Choose a small interior room on the lowest level of the home possible. A hallway or closet might be the best choice. If you’re on a floor above the 10th, take shelter on a lower level.
- Lie on the floor, taking shelter under a sturdy object.
- Stay here until you know the storm is over. (The eye of the storm may make it seem calm before the danger has actually passed.)
- AVOID going outside, stay inside if it is safe and you have not been evacuated.
