Vocational Building Groundbreaking Ceremony

Feb. 18, 2026, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Press Release

The Fort Bend County Commissioner Pct. 4 Dexter McCoy, Fort Bend County Commissioners Court, Fort Bend County Juvenile Board, and our Industry Partners are honored to announce the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Vocational Training Center located at 122 Golfview Richmond 77469 on February 18, 2026, at 10:00am.

Juvenile Board Chairwoman Judge Toni Wallace advised, “The Fort Bend County Judiciary proudly supports the development of this Vocational Training Center as a meaningful investment in the future of our youth. By providing hands-on training in high-demand fields, the center will equip young people with practical skills, industry credentials, and clear pathways to sustainable careers. This initiative reflects our shared commitment to rehabilitation, opportunity, and long-term success beyond the justice system.”

Chief Juvenile Probation Officer Kyle Dobbs stated, “This has been a personal goal of mine for many years. Since 1996 at our Rosenberg Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program site, and more recently at our Arcola site in 2022, we have seen the tremendous value of vocational education and training for our youth. We were committed to bringing those same vocational career training opportunities to the youth in our residential Juvenile Leadership Academy Program. Our Juvenile Leadership Academy youth will benefit from hands-on instruction provided by TSTC and WCJC instructors in high-demand fields such as HVAC, welding, electrical, skilled construction (carpentry), graphic and digital design, and cosmetology. These skills will properly prepare them upon graduation to begin pursuing rewarding and high demand careers. Without the guidance and support of the Judges of the Fort Bend County Juvenile Board, the commitment to our youth demonstrated by the Fort Bend County Commissioners Court, and the legislative support of Representative Suleman Lalani and Senator Charles Perry, this long-standing goal would not have become a reality for the youth of Fort Bend County.”

The Juvenile Leadership Academy (JLA) is a residential program operated by the Fort Bend County Juvenile Probation Department that serves youth in a safe, secure, and structured environment. The program emphasizes education, counseling, positive decision-making, accountability, leadership development, and life skills to support successful reintegration home. The addition of this Vocational Training Center further enhances the rehabilitative model by providing exposure to industry-based skills training and workforce readiness opportunities that prepare youth for long-term educational and career success.

Sincerely,
