The Mental Health Division is responsible for the filing of all civil commitments in Fort Bend County. This Division provides expertise and support in the mental health law field to elected officials, Fort Bend County residents, and facility and hospital allies. We work in tandem with local mental health facilities, State and local agencies, and law enforcement to provide mental health care for some of Fort Bend’s most vulnerable residents who are a threat to themselves and/or others by providing representation in the County Courts at Law having jurisdiction over these cases.

In addition, the Mental Health Division provides representation in commitment cases regarding the placement of individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities; Texas Department of Criminal Justice commitments; and the commitment of individuals whose refusal of treatment or behavior poses a public health risk.
