Judge Kali Lyles Morgan was elected to serve as Presiding Judge of the 505th Family District Court on November 3, 2020. A native Houstonian, Judge Morgan received her undergraduate degree from the University of Houston - Central Campus in 2001, and her law degree from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in 2004.

Judge Morgan has dedicated her career to public service. Prior to taking the bench, Judge Morgan served the State of Texas in several critical roles, including as a Regional Attorney for the Department of Family and Protective Services, where she litigated complex child welfare cases across a thirteen-county region. She also served as an Assistant Disciplinary Counsel for the State Bar of Texas, where she upheld the integrity of the legal profession by investigating and prosecuting attorney misconduct cases. Earlier in her career, Judge Morgan founded and managed her own law practice, focusing exclusively on family law matters.

Judge Morgan’s leadership extends beyond the courtroom. In 2023, she was appointed to serve as Chair of the State Bar of Texas Judicial Section’s Family Law Legislative Subcommittee. In 2025, she was appointed to serve a three-year term on the Texas Center for the Judiciary’s Curriculum Committee, and most recently, she was appointed to the Rules Committee for the 11th Administrative Judicial Region of Texas. Judge Morgan is a respected voice in the legal community, having been selected as a speaker for the Advanced Family Law Seminar in 2022, 2023, and 2025, as well as Marriage Dissolution 101 in 2024.

Judge Morgan firmly believes that justice should be blind to social, racial, and political differences. In her courtroom, every person is treated with respect, every voice is heard, and every case receives the time and attention that it deserves in the most efficient way possible. Judge Morgan strives to achieve the best possible outcomes for every family in every case. In her spare time, Judge Morgan enjoys spending time with her family, participating in community service efforts, and being an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
