Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: My business is not a Salvage Yard. Does this ordinance still apply to me?
A: Yes, this ordinance applies to every commercial automotive business that stores vehicles outside. See the flowchart below (also included in the application packet above) to see if your business requires a Fort Bend County Salvage License.
Q: Can I be cited (ticketed) for not having the Fort Bend County Salvage License?
A: Yes, If your business is found to meet the ordinance definition of a Salvage Yard or Junkyard you may be cited for every day that you remain in business without a license or without proper fencing.
Q: Can the county close my business if I do not obtain a Fort Bend County Salvage License?
A: Yes, all businesses in violation of the ordinance but continuing to operate are subject to permanent injunction (court ordered closing of the business) by the Fort Bend County Attorney's Office.
Q: How does the Fire Marshal's Office determine if a business is a Salvage Yard?
A: Inspector/Investigators from the Fire Marshal's Office will visit the location and using the flow chart below (also included in the application packet above) they will conduct an inspection of the vehicles being stored and the fencing. If three or more wrecked vehicles (as defined in the ordinance) are being stored outside then the business is considered a Salvage Yard that must have a license and fencing that complies with the ordinance. If the business does not have a license or compliant fencing then citations can be issued.
