Fort Bend County Hazardous Material Response Team

The Fort Bend County Fire Marshal's Office operates the Hazardous Material Response Team for Fort Bend County.  The Fort Bend County Hazardous Material Response Team consists of 9 full-time and 4 part-time hazardous material technicians, who provide the residents of Fort Bend County 24 hours a day, 7 days a week coverage.  The team is managed by the County Fire Marshal and the Deputy Chief over Special Operations.  The Fort Bend County Hazardous Material Response Team operates on a 48/96 schedule for full-time employees, and one 24 hour shift per week for each part-time employee. 

The Fort Bend County Hazardous Material Response Team is a FEMA Type I team, the most advanced level of response team as defined by FEMA.  The Fort Bend County Hazardous Material Response Team responds to calls throughout Fort Bend County and is available to respond to calls outside of Fort Bend County if asked to do so.

The employees of the team are trained to some of the highest standards in the hazardous materials response field.  The Fort Bend County Hazardous Material Response Team also has  access to the latest and greatest equipment available.  In addition, the team utilizes several types of vehicles for a wide range of hazardous material missions.

The primary apparatus the team utilizes is a Pierce truck known as Hazmat 1.  Hazmat 1 carries the vast majority of the equipment and personnel needed for a hazardous material response.  The team also has access to two additional apparatus, one of which is Hazmat 3, which is a Ford F250 equipped with a winch and four-wheel drive in the event the hazardous material spill is located in a rural or off road location.  The team also has access to Hazmat 2, which is a Ford F550, also equipped with four-wheel drive, but has the added ability to tow heavy trailers carrying additional supplies as needed. 

The Fort Bend County Hazardous Materials Response Team stands ready at all times to respond to any hazardous material incident that may occur.
