Similar Names

Laws that require all Texas voters to present an approved form of  identification also requires that the name on the ID used by the voter exactly match the name as it appears on the official poll list. If a name is substantially similar, then the voter will be required to initial an affidavit affirming that he or she is, in fact, the person whose name appears on the list. Variations in a name might be the result of misspellings, the use of initials in place of a first, or middle, name, or the use of a maiden name in place of a middle name. Significantly different names may result in a voter only being able to cast a provisional ballot.

You may check your name on the Voter Registration Database Search and you may update your information online at https://txapps.texas.gov/tolapp/sos/SOSACManager. You may also update your name at the polling place when voting or at the Fort Bend County Elections Office.
