Canine Leadership Program

The Canine Leadership Program is a partnership between the Fort Bend County Juvenile Probation Department (FBCJPD), Fort Bend County Animal Services, Fort Bend Partnership for Youth (a non-profit auxiliary agency), and the Houston Humane Society.  The dogs are fostered and housed at our main location. They are trained in hopes to find a permanent home in the future while teaching valuable life skills to juveniles.

The program is student lead by juveniles from FBCJPD who help care for the dogs, teach them basic obedience training, and a few tricks. The juveniles learn basic life skills on how to take responsibility, lead one another, and work as a team. At the end of the training period, the juveniles assist in promoting the dogs for possible adoption to permanent homes. The Fort Bend Partnership for Youth assists in providing food and supplies for the program. The program is overseen by two staff who care for the dogs and work with the juveniles.

If you are interested in adopting a dog in the program, please contact the Fort Bend County Animal Services at: 281-342-1512.
