Captain Cheryl Hillegeist is the Jail Administrator of the Detention Division, and she assists the Detention Bureau Major with formulating and implementing policies and procedures for the Detention Bureau. She is also responsible for ensuring proper and professional day-to-day operations of inmate housing, programs, medical services, support unit, and administrative unit. These responsibilities include directing and supervising personnel service in these areas. Employee morale, efficient operations, and professional service are priorities for the Detention Bureau.
Captain Hillegeist began her career in 1983 with the Texas Department of Corrections. She joined the Fort Bend Sheriff’s Office in March of 1998. While assigned to the Detention Division she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in January of 2009. In January of 2009 she was then appointed to the rank of Lieutenant. In March of 2015 she was appointed to Captain.
Captain Hillegeist has attended Central Texas College, Houston Community College, Lone Star College, and Wharton Jr. College. She earned her Peace Officer Certification in 1999. She holds numerous certifications from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) including her Certified Instructors Certificate, Jail Administrator Certificate, and her Master Peace Officer Certificate.
