Public Information Requests (Open Records Requests)
At the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office (FBCSO), we are committed to transparency and providing public access to records in accordance with applicable open records laws. If you wish to request access to public records, you can do so by following the steps outlined below.
What Are Open Records?
Open records refer to documents, files, reports, and other types of materials that are produced or maintained by the FBCSO and are available for public viewing, unless otherwise exempt from disclosure under the law.
How to Make an Open Records Request
- Submit a Request in Writing
All open records requests must be submitted in writing. Requests can be made via:

- Provide Specific Information
Please be as specific as possible in your request. The more details you provide (such as dates, document types, or subject matter), the more efficiently we can process your request. Examples of helpful information include:
- Description of the records you are requesting
- Date range for the records
- Provide relevant addresses, names, etc.
- Processing Time
Once your request is received, we will acknowledge it and begin processing as soon as possible. Please allow 10 business days for us to respond. Complex or large requests may take longer.
- Fees
Some records may require a fee for copying or redaction, depending on the volume of the request. You will be notified in advance of any applicable fees.
Exemptions
Not all records may be available for public viewing due to privacy, legal, or security reasons. Some common exemptions include:
- Personal identifying information
- Confidential or sensitive legal materials
- Records protected by attorney-client privilege
If a portion of your request is exempt from disclosure, we will notify you and provide an explanation.
