T. J. GARVEY, SHERIFF – Sheriff Garvey died in the line of duty on August 16, 1889 at the age of 39. Sheriff Garvey was shot to death during a civil disturbance in Richmond, Texas known as the Jay-Bird/Woodpecker War, a major event in the annuals of Texas history.
